Strategy’s 32-Bitcoin Sale Divides Analysts on BTC Strategy Shift
Summary
- Strategy (MSTR), the largest publicly traded holder of Bitcoin, said it sold 32 BTC at an average price of $77,135, raising about $2.5 million.
- TD Cowen and Benchmark said the sale accounted for only about 0.004%% of Strategy’s 843,700 BTC holdings, making it difficult to view the move as a change in its long-term Bitcoin accumulation strategy.
- Risk Dimensions said the sale suggests the company may prioritize capital-structure stability over its previous stance of never selling Bitcoin, giving the move symbolic significance as its first conversion of BTC into cash to fund dividends.
Forecast Trend Report by Period

Analysts are split over Strategy Inc.’s sale of a small portion of its Bitcoin holdings, with the debate centered on whether the move was routine cash management or a sign of a broader strategic change.
CoinDesk reported on June 1 that Strategy, the largest publicly traded corporate holder of Bitcoin, sold 32 BTC between May 26 and May 31 at an average price of $77,135, raising about $2.5 million. The company said the proceeds will be used to pay dividends on its STRC preferred stock.
The sale represented about 0.004% of Strategy’s 843,700 BTC holdings.
TD Cowen analyst Lance Vitanza said the transaction was negligible relative to the company’s overall holdings, making it hard to interpret as a shift in Strategy’s long-term Bitcoin accumulation plan.
Benchmark analyst Mark Palmer also said Strategy was unlikely to use Bitcoin sales as a primary source of dividend funding. He added that the company would probably continue to raise capital through stock issuance.
Mark Connors, chief investment officer at Risk Dimensions, offered a different interpretation. He said the sale suggests Strategy may place greater weight on capital-structure stability than on its previous stance of never selling Bitcoin.
Some market participants also view the sale as symbolically important. While the amount was small, it marked Strategy’s first conversion of Bitcoin into cash to fund dividend payments.
