US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the conflict with Iran "has been halted," as markets watch for signs of progress in talks between Washington and Tehran.
Walter Bloomberg reported on June 4 that Bessent, commenting on the situation involving Iran, said the "conflict has been halted."
The remarks came as the US and Iran continue discussions over nuclear negotiations and a possible extension of a ceasefire.
President Donald Trump had earlier said talks between the two countries were continuing and that Iran was getting closer to signing an agreement.
Neither the US nor Iran has officially announced a final deal. The two sides are reportedly negotiating over limits on Iran's nuclear program, sanctions relief and frozen assets.
Markets are also weighing whether easing tensions between the US and Iran could reduce volatility in safe-haven markets such as crude oil and gold.
