President Donald Trump called on Israel and Iran to immediately halt military action, in a push to prevent a broader conflict. His remarks came as Israel weighs a possible response after Iran fired missiles toward the country.

On June 8, Trump wrote on Truth Social that Israel and Iran must stop the "shooting" immediately.

The post came after Iran launched missiles toward Israel for the first time in about two months. Earlier, the Israeli military said it had detected missile launches from Iran toward Israel and activated its air-defense systems.

Trump recently asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from retaliating against Iran, according to media reports. Foreign media later reported that Israel still carried out attacks on military facilities and other targets inside Iran.

Markets remain uncertain about whether tensions in the Middle East will ease quickly, even as the US seeks to prevent further escalation. Continued military clashes between Israel and Iran could weigh on sentiment toward risk assets such as international oil and cryptocurrencies.
