Pentagon Releases List of Companies to Be Designated Chinese Military Firms

The U.S. Defense Department has released a list of companies set to be designated as Chinese Military Companies. Markets are watching whether the move brings renewed attention to U.S.-China tensions over technology and security.

Walter Bloomberg reported on June 8 that the Pentagon disclosed the list through the Federal Register.

The U.S. government applies the Chinese Military Company designation when it determines that a company is directly or indirectly linked to the People’s Liberation Army or contributes to the development of China’s military capabilities.

Companies included on the list could face additional restrictions, including limits on U.S. investment and government procurement.

The U.S. has expanded sanctions and investment restrictions on Chinese companies in recent years, particularly in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, telecommunications and defense.

Market participants say the latest move could further accelerate the U.S.-China technology race and the reorganization of supply chains.

The Defense Department said it will publish a detailed list of designated companies in a Federal Register notice.
