Zcash Targets July Activation for Ironwood Upgrade
Forecast Trend Report by Period

Zcash developers have finalized consensus-rule changes for the Ironwood upgrade, which is targeted for activation in July. The move is meant to address a previously identified vulnerability in the Orchard pool.
Odaily, a crypto-focused media outlet, reported on June 9 that Zcash developers had agreed on the consensus changes to be included in Ironwood.
The upgrade follows an earlier-disclosed vulnerability in the Orchard pool. The flaw reportedly raised the possibility that an attacker could mint unlimited counterfeit ZEC.
Because the Orchard pool is built with privacy protections, Zcash cannot determine whether counterfeit ZEC was actually created before the flaw was fixed.
Ironwood will introduce a new privacy pool using the Orchard protocol. The existing Orchard pool will be phased out.
The upgrade will also add a control flag to the zero-knowledge-proof circuit. When enabled, it can disable transfers to other users within the pool while preserving the ability to return change.
After activation, the control flag will be applied to the existing Orchard pool. If a user attempts to send funds to a legacy Orchard pool address, the transaction will be automatically redirected to the new pool.
The market views the upgrade as an effort to preserve Zcash's privacy features while responding to the vulnerability and restoring confidence in the token's supply. Still, because it remains difficult to verify whether counterfeit ZEC was ever minted, attention will focus on whether the network can rebuild trust after the upgrade.
