The Open Network Foundation said it will rename its native token, Toncoin, as Gram, a move the market is interpreting as an effort to revive the project’s original Telegram-era identity.

The TON Foundation announced on its official X account on June 9 that the name change will take effect on June 15.

The proposal passed with 81.22% support in a governance vote.

The token’s ticker will change to GRAM from TON, effective at 20:00 UTC on June 15.

The foundation said The Open Network will remain the name of the blockchain network. Only the token’s name, ticker and icon will change.

The rebranding comes after Telegram Chief Executive Officer Pavel Durov recently said TON’s native token would return to its former name, Gram.

Gram was the cryptocurrency Telegram sought to launch in 2019. The project was later halted after a legal dispute with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The market sees the rebranding as a symbolic step that could strengthen ties between the TON ecosystem and Telegram.
