Iran urged the US to honor commitments made in diplomatic talks and warned it could intensify its response if negotiations collapse. Markets are closely watching the direction of US-Iran talks and the potential for rising tensions in the Middle East.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran's parliament, said June 9 that the US must not abandon promises made during ongoing diplomatic negotiations, Walter Bloomberg reported.

If the talks fail, Iran could further raise the level of its response, he added.

The comments came shortly before US President Donald Trump said the US "must respond" to an incident involving the downing of a US Apache helicopter near Oman, according to the report.

The US and Iran have continued talks on the nuclear issue, sanctions relief and the release of frozen assets, though the gap between the two sides remains wide.

Markets view progress in the negotiations as a key variable for geopolitical risk in the Middle East, international oil prices and volatility across global financial markets.
