Trump Says Iran War Settlement Is Effectively Complete, Could Be Signed This Weekend

President Donald Trump said an agreement with Iran is effectively complete and could be signed as early as this weekend.

CBS News reported on June 11 that Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, "We just reached a great settlement" on the war with Iran.

Only final work on the document remains, and it should be completed within days, he said. The signing could take place in Europe as early as this weekend.

The document is nearly finalized, Trump said, adding that Iran wants a deal just as much as other countries do.

Trump claimed the agreement would permanently prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

He also said he had recently spoken with the leaders of Israel, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, and plans to speak with Turkey soon.

Trump said he does not plan to attend the final signing ceremony and that Vice President JD Vance would represent the US.

He also said measures blocking the Strait of Hormuz would be lifted once the agreement is formally signed.

Iran's government has not officially confirmed the agreement Trump described. Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency earlier reported that the US had accepted Iran's proposed text and that approval was likely, though no final agreement had yet been reached.

Markets are watching whether a US-Iran deal materializes, as it could ease geopolitical risks in the Middle East and have a major impact on crude prices, gold and sentiment toward global risk assets.
