Most investors in spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds are still holding their positions despite large outflows from the products, according to an analysis.

Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart told CoinDesk on June 12 that about $9 billion has flowed out of spot Bitcoin ETFs since their recent peak, but that does not amount to a broad investor exodus.

Bitcoin has been trading around $60,000, and continued ETF outflows have pressured the market. Even so, cumulative net inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs since their launch still exceed $50 billion.

Strong inflows in the ETF market have historically been followed by corrections and some outflows. Because ETFs are inherently liquid investment vehicles, buying and selling are a natural part of market activity.

A pullback after several steps forward is also a healthy pattern commonly seen in emerging asset classes, he added.

Seyffart also said investor capital and attention have recently been shifting toward artificial intelligence and the space industry.

Data centers, AI and the space industry have emerged as core investment themes in financial markets, he said. While the shift is difficult to quantify precisely, those sectors are clearly competing with digital assets for investor capital.

With enthusiasm building around a potential SpaceX IPO and AI-related investments, the market is also arguing that the crypto sector needs new growth drivers and regulatory clarity to attract institutional money again.
