President Donald Trump said the leader of Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang was killed in a military operation.

Reuters reported on June 12 that Trump said the US had successfully carried out a lethal strike against Hector Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, the head of Tren de Aragua.

Flores is widely known in the criminal underworld by the alias Nino Guerrero. Under his leadership, Tren de Aragua grew out of Venezuela’s prison system and expanded across South America and into the US mainland, operating as a transnational criminal organization involved in drug trafficking, murder and human trafficking.

Details on when, where and how the operation was carried out have not been disclosed.

The White House, the Defense Department and US Southern Command did not immediately respond to media requests for comment on the announcement.
