Pudgy Party, a mobile game based on the global non-fungible token project Pudgy Penguins, will be shut down as development on the title comes to an end. The company said it will instead focus on Pudgy World, another metaverse gaming project.
Pudgy Penguins announced in an official statement on June 12 that it would begin winding down Pudgy Party effective immediately and halt further development.
The game had gained early traction after launch, reaching No. 1 in Apple’s App Store download rankings and surpassing 1 million cumulative downloads. It also built a solid daily active user community and helped broaden public awareness of the Pudgy Penguins intellectual property.
Despite those results, the company said it chose to discontinue the game because of the rapid growth of Pudgy World, its next title. Pudgy Penguins said Pudgy World is now on track to surpass Pudgy Party and described it as a product on a completely different level in terms of scalability, storytelling potential and its ability to bring users into the Pudgy Penguins universe.
Pudgy Penguins added that Pudgy World has all the elements needed to become its flagship gaming product with a distinct Web3 experience. The company said it would work to make Pudgy World the main gateway for users to experience the Pudgy Penguins story through games in the easiest and most entertaining way.
