President Donald Trump said a deal between the US and Iran could be signed on June 14 if talks proceed as planned.
Walter Bloomberg reported on June 13 that Trump said “the deal with Iran is scheduled to be signed tomorrow” and that he hoped the process would wrap up quickly and smoothly.
“If not, we have the ultimate alternative,” he added.
Trump said the US and Iran had effectively reached an agreement and that only the final paperwork remained.
A senior US administration official said both sides expect to sign on June 14. The official said the agreement would include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, dismantling Iran’s nuclear program and setting up an international inspection framework.
Iran, however, has maintained that no final agreement has been reached.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that once the final stage of negotiations is completed, both sides would sign the document remotely and then announce it officially.
Markets are focused on Trump’s reference to a specific signing date, though some investors remain cautious as Iran’s formal approval process has yet to be completed.
