Elon Musk said his rocket company, SpaceX, could generate $1 trillion in revenue by 2030.
Responding late June 14 on his social media platform X to a post by journalist and financial commentator Jon Erlichman, Musk wrote that SpaceX would reach "about $1 trillion of revenue" in 2030. He added that he would be surprised if the company does not top $1 trillion in revenue in 2031.
SpaceX has climbed nearly 20% from its $135 initial public offering price since listing on June 13, giving it a valuation of more than $2 trillion. Based on Friday's closing price, it ranked as the sixth-largest U.S. company by market value.
Even so, SpaceX still generates far less revenue than technology giants with similar valuations, including Broadcom and Meta.
Reuters reported that SpaceX's revenue surged to $18.67 billion last year from $14.02 billion a year earlier. The company also swung to a net loss of $4.94 billion.
Some Wall Street analysts have taken a more cautious view of the company's growth prospects.
Earlier in June, Goldman Sachs projected that SpaceX's 2030 revenue would exceed $470 billion, while Morgan Stanley forecast about $330 billion.
SpaceX was trading at $169 in premarket U.S. trading on June 15, up about 5%.
