President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz has been fully reopened and that all related agreements have been signed.
Walter Bloomberg reported on June 15 that Trump said, “The Strait of Hormuz was fully opened today,” adding that “all related agreements have been signed.”
The remarks followed a US government announcement that Washington and Tehran had recently signed a memorandum of understanding.
A senior US official said earlier that Trump and Vice President JD Vance had signed the memorandum and that Iran had also completed its signing process.
The US said details of the agreement will be released within 24 to 48 hours.
The US and Iran have recently been negotiating over dismantling Tehran’s nuclear program, establishing an international inspection framework, easing sanctions and restoring normal operations in the Strait of Hormuz.
Markets are assessing whether normalization in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global seaborne oil shipments, could ease geopolitical risk in the Middle East and reduce uncertainty over global energy supplies.
