Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, speaker of Iran’s parliament, said military conflict must end across the Middle East, including in Lebanon.
Walter Bloomberg reported on June 16 that Qalibaf made the remark during a call with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. “The war must end on all fronts, including Lebanon,” Qalibaf said.
The comments came after the US and Iran said they had completed the signing of a memorandum of understanding, or MOU.
President Donald Trump also recently said a peace deal with Iran could help stabilize the broader Middle East and urged restraint against further military action in Lebanon.
Trump emphasized that both Israel and Hezbollah should halt further attacks.
Markets are increasingly hopeful that progress in US-Iran talks could help ease tensions across the Middle East. Even so, military tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border remain a key variable.
