Development of Ethereum’s next major upgrade, known as “Glamsterdam,” has entered its final stage, CoinDesk reported on June 16.

The Ethereum developer community is conducting fork-based tests to validate the protocol changes planned for the Glamsterdam upgrade.

Parithosh Jayanthi, a core developer at the Ethereum Foundation, said the team is building a devnet that includes all Ethereum Improvement Proposals, or EIPs.

The effort marks the final step before an official release after testnet stability and security are reinforced, he added. An activation date has not been set, though the project has made substantial progress.

Glamsterdam is a major upgrade aimed at improving the Ethereum network’s performance and efficiency.

Based on the current pace of development, the market sees the upgrade as likely to be activated in the second half of this year.

Ethereum developers have also continued work on follow-up upgrades aimed at improving network scalability and user experience.
