Coinbase Unveils Push to Become Full-Service Finance Platform Across Stocks, Derivatives and AI

Coinbase has outlined a strategy to expand beyond its crypto exchange roots and become a broader financial platform spanning stocks, derivatives, artificial intelligence and consumer finance.

CoinDesk reported on June 16 that Coinbase plans to offer options trading for both cryptocurrencies and stocks.

Users will also be able to transfer stock portfolios held at other brokerages to Coinbase. Through Coinbase Advanced, they will be able to trade cryptocurrencies, U.S. stocks, ETFs and stock indexes on a single platform.

Coinbase is also expanding its derivatives business. New offerings will include perpetual futures linked to themes such as artificial intelligence, defense and Chinese stocks, as well as pre-IPO perpetual futures based on unlisted companies.

The company also introduced Coinbase Advisor, an AI-based investment advisory service registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The service will offer portfolio recommendations, tax-loss harvesting and market analysis.

Coinbase plans to roll out the service first to Coinbase One subscribers in the U.S.

The announcement underscores Coinbase's strategy to evolve beyond a simple crypto exchange into a broader financial infrastructure provider that integrates traditional finance and digital assets.
