Top aides to President Donald Trump are heading to Switzerland as the US seeks to revive working-level talks with Iran that have stalled.
CNN reported on June 19 that Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy, is traveling to Switzerland to restart negotiations with Iran. Jared Kushner, Trump’s eldest son-in-law, is also expected to visit Switzerland to join potential discussions.
Witkoff and Kushner previously led key negotiations aimed at reaching an initial memorandum of understanding with Iran. With two of Trump’s closest allies returning to the forefront, attention is turning to whether the two sides can break the deadlock.
The timing of any resumed talks remains unclear. The next round had originally been scheduled to begin Friday, but the plan was scrapped after violence between Israel and Hezbollah escalated sharply.
The White House said in a statement the previous day that "Vice President Vance is prepared to board a plane for talks as soon as the opportunity arises." With even senior administration officials on standby for immediate deployment, the US appears intent on restarting the working-level negotiations.
