Israel has ordered its military to halt operations in Lebanon, according to media reports. Israeli forces, however, are not set to withdraw immediately from southern Lebanon.

BlockBeats, a digital-asset media outlet, reported on June 21, citing China Central Television, that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed the military to observe a ceasefire in Lebanon.

Under that order, troops deployed in southern Lebanon will remain in place for now.

A separate source said Israeli military Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir also ordered a ceasefire in southern Lebanon after assessing the situation.

Israel had previously indicated it would not immediately withdraw from southern Lebanon even after a US-Iran agreement. The Jerusalem Post reported on June 15, citing an Israeli source, that Israel would not pull out of southern Lebanon regardless of the US-Iran accord.

Markets are watching whether a ceasefire on the Lebanon front will affect implementation of the US-Iran agreement and the broader easing of geopolitical risks in the Middle East. Continued Israeli troop deployments in southern Lebanon could limit the extent of any de-escalation.
