Vice President JD Vance said talks with Iran in Switzerland made significant progress, with Tehran agreeing to allow International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors to return and the US seeking a regional ceasefire.

Walter Bloomberg, a real-time international markets news account, reported on June 22 that Vance said the negotiations had "laid a very good foundation" for a successful final agreement.

Vance said there had been "a lot of good progress" in the talks with Iran and that the Strait of Hormuz remains open.

He added that Iran had agreed to invite IAEA inspectors back. Nuclear inspections could begin as early as June 22 or later this week, he said.

Vance also said the negotiations were not entirely smooth. At one point, the Iranian side threatened to walk away, and the talks continued until 1 a.m.

On Lebanon, he said the issue requires proper coordination. "We want a regional ceasefire," Vance said.

He also warned that the US has other options if a permanent peace agreement is not reached. "If we do not arrive at permanent peace, President Trump has a lot of options," he said.

Markets are interpreting Vance's remarks as a sign of progress in follow-up talks between the US and Iran. Passage through the Strait of Hormuz, the return of IAEA inspectors and a regional ceasefire are emerging as the central issues in a final agreement.
