Rep. Min Byoung-dug and Rep. Park Min-kyu, who had been members of the Democratic Party's digital-asset task force, are visiting the US on legislative business and plan to meet with the White House and Coinbase.
Industry officials said on June 23 that Min, Park and Rep. Kang Min-kook of the ruling People Power Party departed for the US on June 22 for digital-asset legislative work. They are scheduled to return on June 26.
The three lawmakers plan to meet US senators and House members involved in advancing digital-asset legislation. They are also scheduled to hold talks with the White House's digital-asset advisory council. The council serves as the US government's policy control tower for digital assets and was set up shortly after the start of President Donald Trump's second administration last year.
The lawmakers also plan to meet Coinbase, the US digital-asset exchange. They held a meeting the same day with representatives of BitGo, the global custody firm.
The trip is aimed at shaping the direction of digital-asset legislation and building channels for policy cooperation, an official in Min's office said. The lawmakers will also meet a broad range of government and industry officials involved in digital assets.
Separately, the Democratic Party said it plans to renew its push in the second half of this year to enact the Digital Asset Basic Act. Rep. Ahn Do-geol, who served as secretary of the party's digital-asset task force, said at a National Assembly seminar on June 22 that the bill had moved beyond discussion and should now proceed to enactment. He added that the party would accelerate the effort in the National Assembly in the second half.
