Iran Says Nuclear Site Inspections Would Be Discussed Only After Final Deal

Iran's Foreign Ministry said inspections of its nuclear facilities would be discussed only after a final agreement is reached.

Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi wrote on X on June 24 that there is "no schedule" for access to the attacked facilities or nuclear materials. The post directly rejected speculation that the International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA, would inspect Iran's nuclear sites as part of follow-up talks related to a U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding to end the war.

He added that any inspection of the nuclear facilities would be considered and resolved only within the framework of a final agreement, and only if the other side, meaning the U.S., takes steps to effectively end all sanctions.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi told Japan's NHK in an interview on June 23 that inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities should proceed without wasting time because a 60-day framework had been set under the ceasefire agreement. Grossi visited Switzerland on June 21, where negotiations between the U.S. and Iran on Iran's denuclearization were under way.

Gharibabadi said no meeting with Grossi took place in Switzerland despite the IAEA chief's request.
