Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network Base temporarily halted mainnet operations after a block-production failure, but service has now been fully restored. The company said it has identified the cause of the issue and plans to publish a post-mortem report.

On June 25, Base’s development team wrote on X that block production on the mainnet had stopped. It added that all user funds were safe and recovery work was underway.

The investigation found that a specific block interfered with the production of subsequent blocks, triggering the outage. The team said it was applying multiple recovery measures simultaneously to resolve the problem.

Block production later resumed, and internal nodes returned to normal synchronization. Teams operating validator nodes need to restart them to resync with the sequencer, Base said.

As node restarts progressed, applications and infrastructure services also recovered in sequence. Service providers should be able to restore operations quickly once node restarts and synchronization are complete, according to the team.

Blocks are now being produced normally, and most services across the ecosystem have recovered. Base said it has identified the root cause of the outage and will prioritize releasing a post-mortem detailing the cause of the incident and the fixes applied.
