Steve Witkoff, the U.S. president’s special envoy, and Jared Kushner, a former senior White House adviser, are expected to attend a meeting on Iran, Odaily reported on June 29.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Witkoff and Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, would take part in the meeting, according to the cryptocurrency-focused media outlet.
Leavitt said it would be in Iran’s best interest to reach a favorable deal with the U.S.
She added that technical talks would proceed alongside high-level negotiations. Trump hopes the peace process moves forward smoothly, she said.
Leavitt also said the U.S. retains the right to use military force if necessary.
The remarks came after Trump said on Truth Social that Iran had requested a meeting and that it would be held in Doha on June 30.
