Iran's Foreign Ministry said there is no need for outside powers to intervene in the Strait of Hormuz.

Esmaeil Baghaei, a spokesman for the ministry, said external intervention in the strait was unnecessary and would only complicate the issue, according to overseas markets news account Walter Bloomberg on June 30.

The comments came as discussions continued over implementing a temporary peace agreement between the US and Iran.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital shipping route for Middle Eastern crude oil and liquefied natural gas, or LNG. As tensions between the US and Iran persist, whether traffic can move safely through the waterway has become a key concern for markets.
