Selling pressure in the altcoin spot market has persisted for an extended period, with no sign yet that the sector has bottomed, according to a market analysis.
On July 3, CryptoQuant contributor IT Tech wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that selling pressure in altcoins had dropped to a new multi-year low.
The indicator he cited measures the cumulative difference between buy and sell trading volume for altcoins excluding Bitcoin and Ether. By accumulating the gap between buy and sell volume in the spot market, it shows whether trading is tilted toward net buying or net selling.
IT Tech said the gauge fell further after reaching a five-year extreme last month. That suggests selling has continued to outweigh buying in the altcoin spot market.
The indicator reversed sharply after peaking in early 2025. Since then, the spot market has remained in persistent net selling, with distribution continuing without either a rebound or a pause.
More than 15 months later, there is still no bottom, he added.
The analysis suggests a recovery in supply and demand across the altcoin market, excluding Bitcoin and Ether, remains limited.
