Ripple, the issuer of XRP, has signed an official sponsorship deal with a US college sports program.
The Block reported on July 8 that Ripple recently reached a sponsorship agreement with the Kansas Jayhawks, the athletic program of the University of Kansas. Under the deal, the XRP logo will appear on Jayhawks uniforms. The university is the alma mater of Ripple Chief Executive Officer Brad Garlinghouse.
Crypto firms have already struck sponsorship deals with professional sports teams, but corporate logos on college uniforms were only recently allowed. Earlier this year, the NCAA revised its rules to allow Division I teams to place corporate logos on uniforms starting next month.
The sponsorship agreement also includes support beyond marketing. Ripple will support financial and technology education programs for student-athletes and expand recruiting-linked programs to help University of Kansas graduates enter the tech industry.
