Coupang to Launch Rocket Pay, Expanding Into Online, Offline Payments

Coupang Inc. will launch Rocket Pay, expanding its payment service beyond its own platforms to online and offline merchants.

Coupang said July 10 that it plans to introduce the new payment service in the second half of 2026. Payments previously limited to Coupang, Coupang Play and Coupang Eats will also be available at external online merchants and offline stores.

Rocket Pay will support a range of payment methods, including bank accounts, credit and debit cards, and prepaid balances. The service will incorporate multiple authentication methods to bolster convenience and security. Coupang plans to begin with online merchants before expanding to offline payments.

The company said Rocket Pay will use the same payments infrastructure that has processed annual payment traffic of tens of trillions of won. It also plans to run 24-hour monitoring for abnormal transactions and a response system for service disruptions.

Coupang also unveiled a new brand identity for the launch. The company said it will use the Rocket name and symbol to extend Coupang's core brand image into payments.

A Coupang official said Rocket Pay aims to develop beyond a payment option used within Coupang into an everyday payment service customers can use throughout daily life. The company plans to keep expanding where the service can be used and offer a wider range of benefits.
