Reports from foreign media on July 12 said Iran had launched attacks on US targets in the Middle East.

Russia's state-run RIA Novosti and other outlets, citing Iranian state broadcaster Press TV, reported that Iran carried out a series of airstrikes against US targets in the region.

Reuters reported that an air raid alert sounded in Bahrain and that the United Arab Emirates had activated its air defense systems in response to a missile threat.

Russia's TASS news agency reported that multiple explosions were heard in Doha, Qatar.

US Central Command said Iran had attacked vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, violating a previous ceasefire agreement. It added that it had conducted airstrikes on major sites in southern Iran, including Qeshm Island, Asaluyeh and Bushehr.

Earlier on July 12, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, said in a statement that it was closing the Strait of Hormuz after ships tried to pass through what it described as an illegal route.
