Binance recorded its highest monthly futures trading volume of 2026 in June, even as crypto spot trading stayed at its lowest level in two years.

Cointelegraph reported on July 13 that June futures volume at Binance, the world's largest centralized exchange, totaled $1.61 trillion. CryptoQuant analyst Maarten Regterschot said the figure was somewhat surprising because Bitcoin was holding in the mid-$60,000 range while many investors viewed the market as being in a bearish phase.

The increase from May was sharp. Binance's futures trading volume jumped 80% in a month from $893 billion in May, well ahead of rivals OKX at $609 billion and Bybit at $434 billion. Those two exchanges also posted gains from May, rising 9% and 18%, respectively, but the gap with Binance remained pronounced.

Still, the broader centralized exchange futures market remained weak in the second quarter. CryptoRank data showed total second-quarter futures volume fell 11% from the first quarter to $15.7 trillion, extending a three-quarter slide. The spot market was hit harder. Centralized exchange spot trading volume dropped 18.9% from the first quarter to $3 trillion in the second quarter, the lowest level in two years. Binance also remained the largest spot exchange, with $731 billion in trading volume, though its market share fell to 24% from 27%.

Separately, Binance withdrew its application for a license in Greece in late June ahead of the European Union's transition to its Markets in Crypto-Assets, or MiCA, framework. Futures activity on the exchange continued after the next phase of MiCA took effect on July 1, with futures trading volume reaching $418 billion in the first 10 days of July.
