A military adviser to Iran’s supreme leader said any prior understanding with the US is no longer valid and that Washington has formally entered a state of war.

Iranian media reported that Rezaei, a military adviser to Mojtaba Khamenei, said “there is no longer any memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States” and that “the enemy has officially entered a state of war,” crypto media outlet BlockBeats reported on July 14.

The comments came as military clashes between the US and Iran intensified. The US had earlier responded to an Iranian attack on a US military base by carrying out about five hours of continuous airstrikes on targets inside Iran, the report said.

Markets are watching for a further rise in Middle East tensions as both sides continue to reject the validity of prior agreements and issue statements formalizing the military confrontation.

Uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz also persists, with attention focused on the impact on international oil prices and sentiment toward risk assets.
