Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang on July 15 praised SK Hynix’s listing of American depositary receipts on Nasdaq, calling it “incredibly successful.”

Huang made the comment in response to a Yonhap News Agency question after attending an event in Tokyo’s Akihabara district marking the 30th anniversary of Nvidia’s partnership with Japanese gaming company Sega. He added that he was “very happy.”

SK Hynix is a key Nvidia partner, supplying high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, used in artificial intelligence chips. Huang’s remarks indicated he views investment inflows tied to the ADR listing as a positive sign for the expansion of Nvidia’s AI ecosystem.

SK Hynix ADRs rose 27.29% on July 14, their third trading day after listing, as the shares gained traction on views they were undervalued.

Huang also said he plans to announce large-scale AI cooperation with the Japanese government on July 16. “Tomorrow could be called the starting point for Japan AI,” he said, adding that he plans to unveil cooperation in AI and robotics with major Japanese companies.

Huang has visited South Korea twice in recent months, prompting criticism in some quarters that he had bypassed Japan. He now appears to have been preparing AI partnerships with the cabinet of Sanae Takaichi, who has been pushing to broaden AI adoption, as well as with major Japanese manufacturers.

At the Sega event marking the companies’ 30-year partnership, Huang met Sega CEO Haruki Satomi, former President Shoichiro Irimajiri and Virtua Fighter creator Yu Suzuki. He said Nvidia — and today’s AI technology — would not exist without Japan’s gaming industry, which pioneered 3D graphics.

He also recounted an early investment from Sega in the mid-1990s, when Nvidia was just starting out, and expressed gratitude for the $5 million funding that helped the company avoid bankruptcy.
