US Senate Unanimously Passes Resolution Opposing Any Pardon for SBF
Forecast Trend Report by Period

The U.S. Senate unanimously adopted a resolution opposing any presidential pardon for Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of FTX.
Cointelegraph reported that the Senate unanimously passed Resolution 772, or S. Res. 772, on July 16. The measure states that Bankman-Fried should not receive any form of federal clemency, including a presidential pardon or a commutation of his sentence.
Sen. Ruben Gallego introduced the resolution in mid-June. Sen. Cynthia Lummis joined as a co-sponsor. Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno later signed on as a co-sponsor, giving the measure bipartisan support.
The resolution does not require approval from the House of Representatives or the president's signature, but it is not legally binding. That means it cannot block the president's pardon power.
Bankman-Fried was convicted in federal court in March 2024 on fraud and conspiracy charges tied to FTX's 2022 collapse and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He later applied for a pardon from President Donald Trump in June. Justice Department records show the request is under review.
