Zcash Launches Zakura Full Node, Targets 50,000 Transactions a Second
Summary
- Zcash said it has launched a new full-node client, 'Zakura 1.0.0,' to improve transaction throughput.
- The Zakura development team is targeting more than 50,000 transactions per second, with throughput comparable to Visa and Mastercard.
- The developers plan to boost Zcash's performance through recursive proof, private information retrieval (PIR) and a 0.5-second block propagation system.
Forecast Trend Report by Period

Zcash has launched a new full-node client, Zakura, to sharply increase transaction throughput.
BlockBeats and other outlets reported on July 19 that Zcash recently released Zakura 1.0.0. The software is being developed and maintained by a team led by Sean Bowe, an early zero-knowledge developer for Zcash, and Dev Ojha. The team is funded through private donations.
The developers are targeting transaction throughput on par with Visa and Mastercard. Their goal is to raise Zcash's performance to more than 50,000 transactions per second.
To get there, the team is developing recursive proof technology that can verify thousands of zero-knowledge proofs with a single proof. It is also working on private information retrieval, or PIR, which would allow wallets to retrieve the transaction data they need without revealing which transactions they are querying.
Zakura is also testing a high-speed block propagation system designed to relay new blocks to all nodes within 0.5 seconds.
