Grayscale Seeks Quarterly Cash Payouts From ETH, SOL Staking ETFs

Grayscale is seeking to make regular cash distributions from rewards generated by its Ethereum and Solana staking exchange-traded products.

Cointelegraph reported on July 20 that Grayscale disclosed in an 8-K filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission that it plans to amend the trust agreements for the Grayscale Solana Staking ETF (GSOL) and the Grayscale Ethereum Staking ETF (ETHE) around Aug. 7. Under the proposed revisions, each trust must convert staking rewards into cash at least once per quarter and distribute net proceeds to shareholders.

If adopted, the structure would let retail investors receive staking income in cash through brokerage accounts without directly holding crypto, selecting validators or managing staking operations themselves. Grayscale said payout amounts cannot be determined in advance because they will depend on staking rewards generated during each period and trust operating costs.

Grayscale made ETHE's first staking distribution on Jan. 5, paying shareholders about $0.08 a share. On Oct. 6, 2025, it added staking features to its ETH and SOL products, becoming the first US digital-asset fund manager to introduce staking to spot ETPs.

Yahoo Finance data show ETHE had net assets of $1.22 billion and GSOL had $101.3 million. As of July 17, the Ethereum fund's total staking yield was 2.67% on an annual basis, while the Solana fund's was 6.10%.

Grayscale said the amendment is intended to comply with Internal Revenue Service rules allowing staking rewards to be received without tax withholding. The changes will take effect after 20 days' prior notice to shareholders, after which the firm plans to disclose how cash distributions will operate for each fund.
