Crypto exchange OKX has appointed former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to its board.

OKX announced on July 20 that Cuomo had joined the board. He has advised the company on US regulatory and institutional strategy since 2023 and, in his new role, will support the expansion of its US business.

Cuomo previously served as New York’s 56th governor, New York state attorney general and US secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

OKX expects his experience in public policy and regulation to aid its push into the US market.

Star Xu, OKX’s founder and chief executive officer, said Cuomo had played an important role in the company’s US strategy for years. Xu added that Cuomo’s understanding of government, institutions and markets would be a major asset as OKX builds infrastructure linking traditional and digital finance.

Cuomo will also serve as co-chair of a joint venture between OKX and Intercontinental Exchange, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange.
