US to Send More F-16s, F-35s to Middle East as Trump Weighs Military Response to Iran

The US is moving additional fighter jets and aerial refueling aircraft to the Middle East as it prepares for possible military tensions with Iran.

CNN reported on July 20 that the US plans to deploy F-16 and F-35 fighter jets and aerial refueling aircraft from bases in Europe to the Middle East. The move is intended to broaden President Donald Trump's military options.

Trump was briefed last week in the White House Situation Room on possible responses to Iran. Options under review reportedly include seizing Kharg Island, a key hub for Iran's crude oil exports, and launching airstrikes on a nuclear facility in Parchin.

The US has not completely ruled out a diplomatic solution. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the door remains open for a return to the negotiating table.
