Chris Paul, head of the Center for AI Standards and Innovation, or CAISI, at the US Commerce Department, resigned after three months in the job, Axios reported on July 20.

The Commerce Department confirmed the resignation and said Arvind Raman, director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, or NIST, will serve as acting head of CAISI for the time being. A successor will be announced within weeks.

The department said Paul's appointment had been intended as temporary from the outset and that the search for his replacement had been underway for the past several weeks.
