The Midnight Foundation said it is working with major exchanges to restrict the movement of assets stolen in the Wanchain Cardano-BNB Chain bridge incident.
In a post on X on July 21, the foundation said it was closely coordinating with exchange partners and the broader industry to contain the impact of the attack.
The foundation said major exchanges including KuCoin, Kraken, Binance, Bybit, OKX, Gate and MEXC have taken preventive measures. The platforms have temporarily frozen accounts and addresses tied to the incident, blacklisted wallets linked to the attacker, and, where necessary, suspended NIGHT deposits and withdrawals.
The coordinated response significantly reduces the attacker's ability to move or cash out the stolen funds, the foundation said.
The foundation stressed that the incident was a separate breach at a third-party bridge, not a problem with the Midnight network or the NIGHT asset itself. It added that exchange partners had confirmed the matter was an isolated third-party bridge incident rather than an issue with the Midnight network or NIGHT.
Bridges are infrastructure that connect different blockchains and allow assets to move between them. This incident occurred in Wanchain's Cardano-to-BNB Chain connection process, and the foundation and exchanges are focused on blocking routes for the stolen assets.
The Midnight Foundation said it is continuing to investigate the incident with exchanges and ecosystem partners and will provide updates as more information becomes available. It also urged the community to follow official guidance and be cautious about unverified information.
