Sen. Angela Alsobrooks, a Democrat, opposes a White House proposal to give the U.S. Department of Justice sole authority to enforce ethics provisions in the CLARITY Act.

Crypto in America host Eleanor Terrett reported on July 21 that Alsobrooks called the idea "not a serious proposal" and said she would not support the bill if that were the only enforcement mechanism.

Sen. Bernie Moreno, who has been negotiating with the White House over the ethics provisions, said the current proposal would give enforcement authority to the Justice Department rather than to state attorneys general.

Alsobrooks said she would continue negotiating from that starting point in an effort to reach an agreement that holds everyone accountable. She was one of two Democrats on the Senate Banking Committee who voted in May to advance the CLARITY Act to the full Senate. She has said she would continue to support the bill only if it includes strong ethics provisions.
