Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement on July 22 that it attacked King Faisal Air Base and Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan with missiles and drones as part of what it called Operation Nasr 2.
The group claimed the assault hit a hangar used to prepare US F-15 fighter jets for sorties. It also said a strike on a drone hangar completely destroyed eight new MQ-9 drones that had not yet been unwrapped for deployment, and significantly damaged two more drones parked outside.
It added that a strike on a helicopter hangar seriously damaged two large US helicopters. Attacks on facilities housing US troops also caused multiple casualties, it said.
The Revolutionary Guards described the attack as legitimate retaliation for US airstrikes. It said the US had faced overwhelming retaliation after repeatedly attacking military and civilian facilities.
Israeli media and other foreign outlets reported that an Iranian missile landed in Aqaba, a port city in southwestern Jordan near the Israeli border. Explosions were also heard in Eilat, a nearby Israeli city.
