The hacker behind Drift Protocol has transferred a large amount of Ether to crypto mixing protocol Tornado Cash.
BlockBeats reported on July 24, citing data from blockchain security firm PeckShield, that an address believed to be linked to the Drift hacker recently deposited about 23,095 Ether into Tornado Cash. The funds were worth about $44.4 million at the time of the transfer.
Drift suffered a $285 million hack in April. The attacker converted a significant portion of the stolen assets into Ether and distributed the funds across multiple addresses. The hacker resumed moving the stolen funds on July 23 after about three months.
The same address was also seen sending 0.85 Ether to global crypto exchange Bybit. The exact purpose of that transfer was not confirmed.
Tornado Cash is a protocol that mixes cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals, making it more difficult to trace the flow of funds and link transactions to specific users.
