Bitcoin Sharpe Ratio Falls to -23, Signaling Potential Long-Term Buying Opportunity
Forecast Trend Report by Period

Bitcoin's Sharpe ratio has dropped to an extreme low, a move that may offer a spot-buying opportunity for long-term investors, crypto analyst Ali Martinez wrote.
In a post on X on July 24, Martinez said Bitcoin's Sharpe ratio had fallen to -23, indicating conditions suitable for spot accumulation.
The Sharpe ratio measures returns relative to volatility. A positive reading suggests returns have outweighed the risk taken, while a negative reading indicates investors are enduring steep losses.
Martinez said a reading of -23 points not to an endless decline, but to deepening seller exhaustion. That is creating an entry point with asymmetric risk-reward for long-term Bitcoin investors.
He said the Sharpe ratio also compressed to similar levels at bear-market bottoms in 2015, 2019 and 2022, when a final capitulation phase formed.
