Interest in Wall Street is growing after crypto perpetual futures were introduced to the regulated US market, CoinDesk reported on July 27. Major financial institutions, however, are remaining cautious until market liquidity and the regulatory framework mature further.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission approved Kalshi’s launch of a regulated perpetual futures product in May, the report said. Coinbase has also received approval to list regulated perpetual futures in the US. Kalshi surpassed $1 billion in trading volume within a week of launch and has since sought approval for additional perpetual futures products tied to gold and silver.

Still, the industry says large financial institutions remain in a wait-and-see mode even as perpetual futures trading, once centered offshore, starts moving into the US market. Big banks are unlikely to participate aggressively until trading volumes deepen, regulations become clearer and market infrastructure proves stable, given capital requirements, customer-protection obligations and reputational risk.
