PayPal plans to expand its stablecoin and artificial intelligence-driven payments businesses after reporting second-quarter revenue that beat market estimates.
Cointelegraph reported on July 28 that PayPal's second-quarter revenue rose to $8.68 billion from $8.29 billion a year earlier, topping the market consensus of $8.47 billion.
Earnings per share were $1.26, below both $1.30 a year earlier and the market estimate of $1.28.
PayPal recorded an $81 million non-GAAP adjustment related to gains and losses on crypto assets held for strategic and investment purposes. The company said it excludes those gains and losses from non-GAAP results because it does not actively trade the assets or use them as operating capital.
In its second-quarter investor materials, PayPal said it would expand AI agent payments, stablecoins, and digital identity and biometric authentication technologies using its payments network and risk-management system.
The company also said about $200 million in payments was processed between Venmo and PayPal through its global payments platform, PayPal World.
