Trump wrote on Truth Social on July 30 that a peace committee had reached a “historic agreement” with Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza on full disarmament. He called it a “monumental step” toward sustainable peace and security in the enclave.
Hamas officially confirmed the disarmament agreement the next day. A senior Hamas official told AFP that the sides had agreed on weapons issues and on a plan for the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces. The Gaza National Administrative Committee, or NCAG, a new governing body established by the peace committee, will manage and enforce the preparation of weapons inventories and their storage under an agreed timetable. The official added that the NCAG will be the only body authorized to possess, manage and control weapons in Gaza.
The disarmament deal could accelerate the Gaza peace settlement and reconstruction effort that Trump has been pushing.
