CoinDesk reported on August 31 that IBM Chief Executive Officer Arvind Krishna said quantum computing is moving beyond the research stage and closer to commercialization, with the technology set to make meaningful contributions to IBM's revenue and profit starting in 2028 and 2029.

In an interview, Krishna said quantum computing would generate $1 trillion in economic value by the late 2030s. He added that it would deliver performance far beyond conventional computers at a lower cost.

IBM said in May that it plans to invest a total of $2 billion with the U.S. government to build a standalone quantum chip foundry.
