Ripple has made strategic investments in ZILO and Licuido to expand institutional financial infrastructure on the XRP Ledger, or XRPL.

The Block reported on August 3 that Ripple plans to use the investments to add compliant securities transfer-agent services, asset issuance and collateral-transfer functions to XRPL infrastructure.

Transfer-agent services involve maintaining records of securities owners and tracking ownership changes tied to transactions. Collateral-transfer functions allow financial institutions to move assets so they can be pledged as collateral or used in other transactions.

Ripple aims to strengthen the foundation for institutions on the XRP Ledger to issue, manage and transfer assets in line with regulatory requirements.
