Iran's president rejected speculation that he may resign and emphasized solidarity with the military.

Walter Bloomberg, an overseas financial breaking-news channel, reported on August 4 that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said he has "no intention whatsoever" of stepping down and is "completely aligned" with the military.

"They are trying to drive a wedge between us," he said, alleging an effort to foment internal divisions.

Pezeshkian also defended the government's official death toll from an incident in January. He said some critics were inflating the number of deaths to 30,000 to 40,000 from an actual figure of about 3,000, and denounced them as "cowardly" and "treasonous."
