Pavel Durov, chief executive officer of Telegram, said the messaging app was briefly removed from Apple's App Store after a coordinated false-reporting attack, Cointelegraph reported on Aug. 4.

In a post on his personal channel, Durov said attackers altered existing posts in public groups to include AI-generated illegal pornographic material and then reported them to Apple, leading to Telegram's temporary removal from the App Store.

He described it as a typical extortion tactic in which attackers demand money from operators of public groups and, if refused, plant illegal content and report it to platform operators. Durov said the incident was part of an organized attack.
